Fábio Rodrigues — born on this coast

I was born and raised along the rugged cliffs of the Vicentine Coast, so my connection to the Portuguese sea, nature and local traditions is practically in my DNA. I spent my childhood learning the art of fishing from my grandfather and exploring the Southwest Alentejo Natural Park — the kind of insider's understanding of this region you can only grow up with.

My path to founding Algarfun in 2018 was shaped by a uniquely diverse background: the multicultural environment of the Algarve International School gave me global perspective and fluency in several languages, and a first career in healthcare instilled deep empathy, meticulous organization and sharp attention to detail. Today I channel exactly those qualities into hospitality.

My ultimate expertise lies in the Western Algarve and the Vicentine Coast — regions I know intimately and hold close to my heart. I believe travel should go far beyond standard sightseeing: it is about uncovering hidden gems, tasting authentic flavors and building genuine human connections that linger long after the trip ends.

Word of mouth

What guests say

A few voices from past tours.

We first met Fábio when he was hired to guide a tour we joined, and we instantly hit it off. Right away, his genuine warmth and deep, authentic knowledge of Portugal stood out.

That first encounter led us to start booking custom trips with Fábio, which opened up a side of Portugal we never would have discovered on our own. He has shown us incredible off-the-beaten-path places and has even treated us and our friends to amazing, authentic homemade Portuguese meals!

Over time, Fábio has transitioned from our guide to a close personal friend. Today, whenever friends or family visit us in Portugal, hiring Fábio is the first thing we do—because we know, without a doubt, they are guaranteed an unforgettable experience.

We cannot recommend Algarfun and Fábio enough. From airport pickup to our final drop-off, everything was seamless and personalized. Fábio was exceptionally friendly, kind, and helpful, making us feel more like friends than clients.

The greatest part of the experience was seeing Portugal through the eyes of a local. His knowledge, passion, and personal insights allowed us to experience the culture, history, and beauty of Portugal in a way that would not have been possible on our own.

If you're looking for an authentic, memorable, and truly local experience in Portugal, this is the company to choose. A five-star experience from start to finish.

Melissa & JoelCanada

During our first visit to Portugal, friends hired Fábio to show us around—and it turned out to be the best decision of the trip! Fábio's incredible knowledge of history, wildlife, agriculture, and local culture made every moment—even the long drives—truly fascinating. Watching him effortlessly navigate the narrow, winding streets of Portugal's small towns was an absolute art form!

He was also extraordinarily attentive, always anticipating when we needed a coffee break, snack, or quick pit stop. By the middle of the trip, Fábio felt less like a tour guide and more like part of our group.

If you want to get the absolute most out of your time in Portugal, we can't recommend Fábio enough. Obrigado, Fábio!

Good to know

Questions, answered

Are the tours really private?

Yes — every departure is exclusively for your group, from 1 to 6 guests. You will never share the vehicle with strangers, and the pace of the day is set by you.

Where do you pick us up?

Pickup at your hotel or accommodation is included in the areas each route starts from — Portimão and Armação de Pêra for routes 1 and 2, Lagos for route 3, Sagres for route 4. Staying somewhere else? Mention it in the form and we will confirm the options.

What is included in the price?

A private local guide, all driving and fuel in an air-conditioned van, hotel pickup and drop-off, and bottled water. Admission to paid attractions is not included. Meals are not included either — bring your own food and drink if you prefer, or eat out along the way. The next question covers both.

Can we bring our own food, or do we eat at restaurants?

Either — whichever you prefer. You are welcome to bring your own food and drink, and several routes pass viewpoints where a picnic beats any dining room in the Algarve; tell Fábio and he will build the stop into the day. If you would rather eat out, he suggests places that suit your tastes and the route, gets you seated, talks you through the local dishes worth ordering, and will order on your behalf if you would like him to. Meals are paid separately either way. Mention allergies or dietary requirements when you enquire and he will plan around them.

Are children welcome?

Absolutely — the tours are family-friendly, and walks can be shortened or adapted to little legs. Child seats are available on request; just tell us the ages in the form.

What about the weather?

The Western Algarve is beautiful in every season — route 2 was designed precisely for the green winter months. If conditions ever make a stop unsafe, we adapt the itinerary together or move your date at no cost.

How does booking work?

Send the form with your dates and wishes. Fábio replies personally, typically within 24 hours with a concrete proposal. Nothing is paid online — you confirm directly with him, the simple way.
